Bohemian Rhapsody: Freddie Mercury ‘CHANGED’ Rami Malek forever – in THIS way

The hugely successful film is continuing to find success on home video, after a record-breaking run at cinemas late last year. It also cleaned up at multiple awards ceremonies – winning more Oscars this year than any other release, including Best Actor for Malek himself. The actor’s work as the late Queen icon was lauded across the board – and it’s no surprise that the convincing performance left its mark on him.

Speaking in an interview with Harkins Theatres, Malek was asked if his “shy” nature was affected by playing someone so exuberant.

“Immensely,” he admitted.

“The reason everyone gravitates towards him is because he alters everyone’s perspective of the world, and how they are.

“What Freddie does so well is he lets us find a bit more liberty and freedom in ourselves and sing a bit louder than we used to.

“Or keep singing just as loud! He’s special.”

Pushed on whether he adopted any physical mannerisms or traits after his performance, or if anything “from Freddie” creeps into his everyday life, he grinned: “Not gonna lie, it does sometimes!

“But I don’t mind.”

Speaking to the same outlet, Lucy Boynton – who played Mary Austin – spoke very highly of her on- and off-screen boyfriend’s performance.

“When he would walk on set, Rami just disappears. There was nothing left of him.

“So every day it was like spending the day on set with Freddie.

“Then you go and see Rami, and you’re like, ‘oh… there’s a stranger in here, what’s he doing here?!’”

Bohemian Rhapsody is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K and digital download.
