Android update: Google Pixel 3 has finally received the fix fans have been waiting for

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL released back in November and remain one of the best Android phones on the market thanks to each’s great software and camera.

Although both handsets are incredibly capable, they have not been free of problems since their launch.

In particular, some users insisted it appeared their units experienced memory management issues that resulted in instances where photos taken would not save for example.

Express.co.uk has been using the Pixel 3 extensively since its release and can confirm this problem was present for us until Google provided a patch for it.

Some Pixel 3 owners have expressed disappointment online about another problem that concerns the flagship’s always-on display.

Essentially, when the phone is locked and the always-on display is enabled, some devices have been shown to emit a momentary flash from their screen in the transition from the device being unlocked to locked.

In a Reddit thread discussing the problem, some Android fans insisted turning off the phone’s always-on display appeared to rid the device of the screen flash.

One user said: “I also had flashing just start happening when locking my screen (Pixel 3).

“If I turn off adaptive display, it doesn’t seem to happen, but when it’s on and I turn the screen off it flashes before working.

“When I turn adaptive display off but keep ‘double tap to check phone’ enabled, it doesn’t flash then either.”

The Pixel 3 screen flashing problem was surely a major frustration for owners, but thankfully it has been remedied in the Android April 2019 security patch that should be rolling out right now for Pixel 3 owners.

In the change log for the new update, Google stated the “screen flash” on Pixel 3 devices has been removed.

Additionally, the Mountain View firm also said the voice-unlocking performance from the Google Assistant should also be improved.

The full change log for April 2019 update read:

• Improves Voice-Unlocking performance for Google Assistant – Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

• Adjust Wi-Fi connectivity during eSIM activation on certain carriers – Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

• Improves Bluetooth connectivity on Pixel devices – original Google Pixel and original Google Pixel XL
