Star Wars 9 ‘title leak’: Is THIS really the name of new movie? Fans brand it ‘STUPID’

Rumoured titles have frequently been popping up over recent months, and it’s still of course unknown if any of them have actually been legit. While we wait for Lucasfilm and Disney to unveil the official name of the trilogy finale, these early whispers are all part of the fun – although this latest so-called “leak” has been ridiculed by fans. According to a new report, the title of Episode 9 is just one word.

Ain’t It Cool claims the film is called Star Wars: Skywalkers.

The outlet cites a “super secret spy” who “has a close eye and hand on some cool Star Wars IX s***e”.

On Reddit, a discussion on the potential title has been just 51% upvoted, with users widely cynical of the rumour.

“Stupid,” said one fan bluntly.

“It sounds… a little empty, honestly. The lack of words here is definitely noticeable,” said another.

Said a third: “Knowing JJ Abrams that name is too spoilery to be real. Skywalkers? Meaning more than one. Last I checked that name is gone when Luke died. Only Leia and Ben are alive.

“Sure they have the blood, but that name is pretty much gone.”

The film is thought to be the end of the Skywalker saga, drawing the current characters’ stories to an end. With Luke having died at the end of The Last Jedi, it makes sense.

So while Skywalkers would certainly be a fitting title, is it a little too simple to be the actual one?

We’ll have to wait a little longer to find out: it is expected that a teaser trailer and the title will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration later this month.

Also due this year is the new TV series The Mandalorian – which could also be previewed at SWC.

Star Wars 9 is out on December 19.
