Celtic news: What Scott Brown did to spark Rangers Old Firm bust-up at final whistle

Celtic star Brown was right in the thick of the action as his side battled to a 2-1 victory over Rangers to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

The Hoops took an early lead through Odsonne Edouard, with the 21-year-old then celebrating with a ball boy.

Rangers had Alfredo Morelos sent off, however, after Brown had successfully antagonised the Colombia international.

The Gers did manage to equalise through Ryan Kent, who aimed a punch at the Celtic skipper late on.

But the home side prevailed with James Forrest on target to send the home fans wild.

At full time, however, both Celtic and Rangers players were involved in a mass brawl that spilled onto the touchline.

And the Herald Scotland have now delved into Brown’s role in the fracas.

It is said the 33-year-old stood with his arms outstretched in front of Rangers fans doing his trademark ‘Broony’ celebration.

And that was enough to spark scenes of violence on the touchline with both managers having to restrain their players.

Rangers ace Andy Halliday went for Brown but, with so many people involved, was not alongside the Celtic captain for long.

Meanwhile, Celtic boss Neil Lennon defended Brown after the game.

The Scotland international was criticised by Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who blamed him for Morelos’ red card.

But Lennon has taken aim at their Old Firm rivals, laying the blame solely at their door.

“I’m not happy with the treatment of Scott Brown today,” Lennon said after the game.

“He’s been elbowed [by Morelos] and then pushed or punched in the face by another player and really Rangers should have been down to nine men.

“Ryan Kent, after we scored the second goal, has either slapped or punched him in the face.

“And it’s just unacceptable at this level of football.”
