Black Ops 4 update for April 2: NEW Blackout Alcatraz map and free download plans revealed

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is getting a big update on PS4, PC and Xbox One this week that will make big changes to the Blackout Mode.

It has been confirmed that Treyarch will be releasing a new Blackout Map called Alcatraz on PS4.

This means it will not be available on Xbox One and PC until next week, probably around the same time.

Treyarch released a short teaser trailer showcasing what the new Alcatraz location will be like.

As the name suggests, the new Battle Royale map is set on a small prison island, complete with close quarters action.

This map will be much smaller than the standard Blackout map and means games will probably take less time to run.

There will also be new areas filled with zombies, as well as a Lighthouse that will no doubt be used as a prime vantage point.

The new Alcatraz map looks set to be part of a bigger update that will also add a range of new bugfixes and balance changes to the game.

New updates usually go live in the evening, so fans can probably expect the new patch to have dropped by 7pm, GMT.

The trailer also confirmed something else that will please fans of the new Battle Royale experience on all platforms.

Activision is making Blackout mode in Black Ops 4 free-to-play for the whole month of April.

This will start on April 2 and will end on April 30 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

It should also be noted that gamers on PS4 and Xbox One will be required to have an active PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.

Treyarch was also forced to confirm that this is not an April Fool’s joke, having made the announcement on a traditional day for pranks.

A message from the studio explains: “Take no prisoners on the new Blackout map, Alcatraz, available tomorrow on PS4, other platforms to follow.

“This is no joke, storm Alcatraz on PS4 and drop into Blackout for free on all systems tomorrow. Alcatraz is coming to all systems at a later date.”

It was also confirmed this week that new Black Ops 4 loot could be earned through the Twitch Prime program.

Twitch Prime members can grab some extra Black Ops 4 content, courtesy of a free bundle of in-game items.

All you have to do is link your Call of Duty account with your Twitch Prime account to receive your first complimentary gear drop.

This includes the ‘Primo’ Rare Outfit, the ‘Burple’ Weapon Camo, and ‘Party Chat’ Jump Pack, with more bonuses expected to be announced soon.

The only downside is that this loot is currently only available to PS4 players, with other platforms set to follow at a later date.
