PS5 release news: PlayStation 5 'leak' isn’t going down well with fans

PlayStation fans have been given a look at what the PS5 DualShock 5 might look like.

A leaked image of the alleged PS5 controller has been posted on the Ray Sekiro Twitter account.

The image – which can be seen below – features a new design with a touchscreen display on the front.

Fortunately it’s almost certainly a fake, because this alleged DualShock 5 hasn’t gone down too well with fans.

While the touchscreen on the front of the device is a nice idea, some Twitter users argue that this could be a huge battery drain.

Others believe the controller is ugly to look at and too blocky, while some think it looks uncomfortable to hold.

Some have even unfavourably compared it to the Xbox One controller.

Whatever the case, Sony should officially announce the PS5 later this year.

According to recent reports, Sony will host a small PS5 reveal in mid-2019, before showcasing the console in full at the returning PlayStation Experience (PSX) event.

Furthermore, it’s said that most studios are in possession of a PS5 dev kit, which is described as a monster.

This would certainly explain why Sony dropped out of this year’s E3 and didn’t host a PlayStation Experience event.

If the console is unveiled this year, then a 2019 release date isn’t out of the question, although a 2020 launch seems more likely.

Whatever happens, Sony might want to announce the PS5 quickly, especially with PS4 sales starting to slow.

Earlier in 2019 it was revealed that year-on-year PS4 sales had dropped by almost a million.

Asymmetric Advisors analyst Amir Anvarzadeh believes that reduced sales and operating income signals the end of the PS4.

“There is more downside as we believe slowing growth in its games division signals a very likely PS5 launch for next fiscal year and the ensuing costs that come with the launch of a new platform,” he told Bloomberg.
