Twitter round-up

Aaron: It’s almost a shame that we’ve had both Liverpool v Man City games already this season. With the table as close as it is, that game around this time of the year would have been one hell of an occasion.

Ant: Can’t spot a sweat on Harry Kane. The dude has been on holiday since the game started. Probably swimming in Dubai or something. Completely ineffective.

Paul: The amount of sideways and backwards passing by Spurs is insane. Have played more towards their goal than Liverpool have. Have they got red shirts on underneath?

John: Missing…..Dele Alli. Last seen 2016/17 Premier league season.

POMPEY WIN!

HT: Absolute agony for Sunderland at Wembley today. They lost the Checkatrade Trophy final to Portsmouth on penalties.

Lee Cattermole’s miss that was Sunderland’s undoing.

HT: And that’s it for the first 45 minutes. Just the one shot on target all game – not really lived up to the hype yet. I suppose Jurgen Klopp won’t care if there isn’t another shot on target all afternoon.

45: One minute added time.

43: Tottenham are finishing the half strongly but they are just lacking that final killer pass to slice Liverpool open.

40: “Harry Kane getting ready for his career as an NFL kicker by having one touch of the ball every half an hour,” says Paddy Power on Twitter. Not far off…

39: Close! Sadio Mane spins away in celebration but realises his curling effort has flown inches wide of the post. The Liverpool star is in such red hot form I think we all expected that to nestle into the net.

36: Splendid. Commentator Martin Tyler has somehow managed to squeeze a reference to Blackburn’s Morten Gamst Pedersen into today’s game.

Why? Well because James Milner has attempted to score directly from a corner again. And again it’s close to causing a few problems with Hugo Lloris back peddling.

34: Now that would have been special. Christian Eriksen pops the ball over to Dele Alli, who rifles a half-volley narrowly over the crossbar.

31: Davinson Sanchez – liability on occasion. He dithers with it inside his area allowing Roberto Firmino to pinch it. The Brazilian tip-toes along the byline before drilling a cross that’s blocked by Jan Vertonghen.

28: That famous Anfield WIND nearly strikes again as James Milner takes a corner that rattles the outside of the woodwork. Might become a genuine tactic we see more of in the future.

26: Alisson has been suspect. The Brazilian races off his line and shouts for Milner to leave it. Alisson himself then produces an unconvincing header that drops to a red shirt.

23: Spurs need to pull themselves together here because Liverpool look rampant. Mohamed Salah looks to have peeled his marker but Davinson Sanchez recovers to make a good sliding challenge.

20: Andy Robertson has nine assists for Liverpool in the Premier League this season; Andy Hinchliffe (1994-95) and Leighton Baines (2010-11) are the only defenders to have had more in a single campaign (both 11).

18: Close! Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are bossing this. The right-back roams forward before unleashing a swerving drive that bends just past the far post. Hugo Loris looked extremely worried indeed.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 TOTTENHAM | FIRMINO

15: Liverpool break the deadlock through Roberto Firmino!

This really is a fine goal. Andrew Robertson has acres of space on the left flank and sends a beautiful ball over to Firmino, who nips between the three centre-backs to head home.

13: Harry Kane MBE (do I have to put that after his name now?) hasn’t been involved yet with most of the action taking place in midfield. Could be Harry Kane NFL star in the future after his comments about wanting to be a kicker out there.

Lucas Moura skips past two challenges before toe-poking it back for Sissoko to drag well wide of the target.

10: Back to matters on the pitch, Liverpool haven’t had a sniff but Spurs have had one or two threatening moments.

Christian Eriksen plays in Lucas Moura but Trent Alexander-Arnold tackles him before he can pull the trigger.

8: Obviously Mauricio Pochettino is in the stands today – serving the first of his two-match touchline ban for his confrontation with referee Mike Dean. He looks dead uncomfortable though – itching to be inside that technical area.

5: Edgy stuff from Alisson already. The Brazilian stopper rushes off his line and slides to collect but fumbles. Dele Alli can’t capitalise and Liverpool hack it clear.

3: Ouch! Well we’ve stopped before we’ve even started here as Danny Rose heads a Jordan Henderson cross that leaves him floored.

The medic comes on, flashes a torch in his eyes and gives him the OK.

LIVERPOOL 0-0 TOTTENHAM

1: Sorry that I’m extremely late to the party – we’re besieged by technical issues at Express HQ this afternoon. WIFI and network problems that are way beyond my pay grade.

Anyway, all YOU need to know if we’re ready to watch an absolute barnstormer with high stakes at Anfield.

No ifs, buts or maybes – this is must-win for Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side.

LIVERPOOL vs TOTTENHAM

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has virtually a fully-fit squad. Long-term absentees Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have returned to full

training with the squad but neither is ready for a match day yet. Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri have also resumed training after recovering from injuries which forced them to withdraw from international duty with England and Switzerland.

England internationals Eric Dier and Harry Winks will be missing for Spurs. Dier picked up a hip injury playing for the Three Lions last week while Winks has a groin problem suffered against Arsenal at the start of March. Right-back Serge Aurier is also injured, having sustained a hamstring problem while playing for the Ivory Coast.
