Louise Minchin: Dan Walker's co-host spills all on ANOTHER BBC Breakfast secret

Louise Minchin, 50, explained how she and Dan Walker, 42, have a place to keep their snacks on BBC Breakfast. “In the desk there is what we call the hub,” she told The Mirror. “I have secret cereal hidden in the hub which I make the night before. Today was porridge.

“And I get a triple espresso at about five to six,” she added.

“We have water bottles, I bought Dan one because I was worried about the plastic bottles we were drinking from every day, so we’ve saved a lot of plastic.”

Louise’s revelation comes after Dan recently unveiled what fans don’t see on the BBC programme in a hilarious Instagram post.

Earlier this week, he shared a picture with his 69,000 followers which showed the BBC Breakfast sofa with a frayed hole and a sunken patch on the seat.

“If I look a bit smaller this morning it’s because of this,” he joked.

“After seven years of ‘bums on seats’ I’m afraid to say the #BBCBreakfast sofa appears to have given up.

“Does anyone have a spare red one knocking about?” he added.

Meanwhile, Louise also told the publication about how she prepares for BBC Breakfast, detailing her routine, which includes getting up in the early hours.

“I am a champion sleeper,” she said. “My alarm goes off at 3.40am, I go to bed about nine or 9.30 and then I have a snooze during the day in the afternoon too.”

Dan went on to reveal his breakfast schedule, saying: “I just have peanut butter on toast at half five and a cup of tea.

“And that’s my one cup of tea for the day and then I’ll drink water after that. Nothing else.”

He said his sleeping pattern was very different to the carefully planned one Louise follows.

“The only bit of advice Bill Turnbull gave me when I replaced him three years ago was, ‘Manage your sleep.’ And foolishly, I’ve entirely ignored Mr Turnbull,” he said.

“I sleep for about four-and-a-half hours for the first half of the week. Louise sleeps a lot more than me.

“I don’t know quite how, but I’ve managed to survive because, in my head, I always think, well, I’ve got some other days where I’ve been doing normal hours, so I’ll just recover then,” he explained.

Dan also admitted he occasionally pulls an “all-nighter”, saying he convinces himself he has to “for research purposes”.

BBC Breakfast airs today at 6am on BBC One.
