Hanna on Prime: Series set for VERY 'dark' twist as writer spills all on show future

Hanna showcased Amazon Prime Video’s dedication to its craft by telling a story which is a little bit different to its other TV shows.

And Hanna (played by Esme Creed-Miles) takes on a powerful position in the show, as she attempts to stay away from the heinous forces that are after her and her father Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman).

While the first season dove deeply into Hanna’s backstory and her relationship with Erik, there is still a story to be told in a potential second season.

Express.co.uk recently spoke to the show’s writer David Farr on whether there would be a second season, and what could happen.

David confessed: “I’ve fallen back in love with the story in a very big way.

“So for me there’s more there… So yes, I’m hopeful the series will continue from what we have created but we will see!”

He later went on to speak about what he envisions a second season of Hanna could entail.

David was open to suggestions that Hanna would take on her own protege – similar to how Erik had her – but he couldn’t confirm absolutely.

He continued: I think I’ve got to keep my secrets – but I think that is absolutely right.

“But the whole of the series is about the progression of an individual. A young woman who was brought up on her own in the wild.

“And of course that leads to many narrative possibilities – some dark, some fun, some humorous, some very very emotional.”

David concluded by discussing what Hanna wants, and what she would yearn for in another season.

He added: “Her drive is to be normal – like any teenager – but it’s a hard journey.”

David also recently told Express.co.uk about the changes Joel brings to Erik’s character.

On the brutal persona of Erik Heller, David revealed: “The journey for Erik is much more complex [than the film] I think. The journey for Erik is him earning the right to be a father.

“It’s also a lot more real in tone – the film has this wacky fairytale quality, the TV show is driven by this psychological reality.

“Erik, for example, is an east German brought up in that dark time. He’s a soldier. And – a simple thing – he speaks German when speaking to German people.”

He also took some time to praise Joel’s performance in the TV show, adding: “[Joel] has a wonderful European quality – he has Swedish parentage – and he brings that middle-European melancholy to it.

“Everyone knows Joel is an incredible action guy, but what I think he shows here is a fragility and a vulnerability which I think will surprise people.”

Hanna season 1 is available on Amazon Prime Video now.
