Toni Nadal hits back at Rafael Nadal claims live on Spanish TV

Rafael Nadal has won a staggering 17 tennis Grand Slam titles during his incredible career.

The Spaniard also boasts Olympic gold medals from two Games and has a net worth estimated to be £120m.

Nadal is still going strong at the age of 32, with his uncle Toni having overseen the early stages of his career.

Toni Nadal does not work directly with the player anymore and instead develops the next batch of Spanish tennis talent at the Rafael Nadal Academy.

And he wanted to make sure no one is left in any doubt of where Nadal’s success has come from.

Toni was a guest on Pablo Motos’ show El Hormiguero last night.

Motos introduced the coach by saying: “He worked and put his theories to test in the real world, and gave us the biggest and most admired champion that Spain has ever had.

“I especially value people who give advice and risk suffering the consequences, and do not care what people think of their actions.”

Nadal came on stage but before the TV interview could begin he corrected the host.

“Actually the person who made Rafa Nadal great was Rafa Nadal,” he said curtly.

Rafael Nadal is set to return to action at the Monte Carlo Masters on April 15.

He has been suffering from a knee injury picked up during the Indian Wells quarter-finals.

The injury meant he could not face old adversary Roger Federer in the semis in California, and he also missed the entirety of the Miami Open.

Nadal’s target this season is to prepare his body for a run at the French Open crown.

He has won the title at Roland Garros a staggering 17 times and is three Slams off Federer’s men’s record of 20.
