Rangers fans in MELTDOWN after Steven Gerrard comment ahead of Celtic Old Firm clash

Rangers travel to Celtic on Sunday afternoon (midday kick off).

Gerrard’s men must beat their arch-rivals to have any hope of challenging for the Scottish Premiership this season.

Rangers trail Celtic by 10 points with eight games remaining this season.

The atmosphere in the Old Firm is always fiery – and Gerrard was quizzed on their trip to Celtic on Sunday.

When asked about the atmosphere ahead of the Old Firm, Gerrard said: “I’ve never seen fans win a football match, it will be loud but it won’t be a lion’s den.

“A lion’s den is when four lions jump over a cage and you fear for your life. You have to thrive in this atmosphere.

“If any of my players don’t fancy it they are at the wrong club.”

And Rangers fans took to social media to hail the Liverpool hero, claiming Gerrard’s comments prove he’s the right man for the job.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Season Tickets due for renewal, near the end of a season, groundbreaking comment.”

Another added: “My Manager!”

“Put ya boots on son,” a fellow Rangers fans said on Gerrard’s comments.

Another fan simply put: “Spot on.”

A lot has been made of the title race ahead of the Old Firm, with ex-Celtic star Craig Beattie claiming the Hoops don’t need to beat Rangers as they’ve all but secured the Scottish Premiership.

“If you don’t lose, I think the title’s in the bag,” Beattie told Sky Sports.

“I don’t think Rangers can pick up anywhere near the amount of points to challenge, let alone go on and win the league.

“Rangers’ recent form has been very, very poor.

“What Steven Gerrard and Rangers have to do is try and put some good, quality performances together and try and get some back-to-back wins.”
