The former magician’s assistant, 60, previously took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, where she was paired with professional Giovanni Pernice, 28. Earlier this month, she joined her ex-co-star Janette Manrara, 35, to chat for the dancer’s YouTube vlog, Talks With Janette. Talk soon turned to Debbie McGee’s time on stage working with her late husband Paul Daniels. “We had the greatest time,” she told Janette. “Every rehearsal was fun because he always made everyone laugh.”
Recalling their massive success, Debbie continued: “Along the way we won the Golden Rose of Montreux, which is a big TV award which the BBC hadn’t won for something like 20-odd years until we won.
“And we got lifetime achievement awards in Hollywood and things like that,” she added, going on to say she and Paul were known around the world in countries including as Japan and Swaziland.
Keen to get to the juicy elements of Debbie’s magic career, Janette asked: “Do you ever want to tell someone how a trick is done?
“Have you ever wanted to say a secret or are you really good at keeping secrets?”
Barely missing a beat, the showbiz legend made a cheeky revelation about her dedication to keeping the mystery surrounding magic tricks.
“I can be bought,” she quipped.
Janette burst into laughter, as Debbie also giggled.
“Ahh, we’ll talk again then!” the Strictly pro exclaimed. “We’ll talk again…”
Debbie worked with Paul for many years tying the knot a decade after they first met.
She was married to the magician for nearly 30 years before his death in 2016.
Paul died just weeks after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Debbie and Janette became friends when she competed on Strictly over two years ago.
The former credited her time on the BBC show with giving her her “sparkle” back following the grief of losing her husband.
She and her professional dance partner Giovanni managed to reach the final, becoming firm favourites with bookies, fans and also impressing the judges along the way.
They lost out on the Glitterball trophy to Joe McFadden, 43, and Katya Jones, 29.
Earlier this year, Debbie spoke out to say she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in October.
She said she had undergone surgery to remove two small tumours from her left breast and had since been given the all-clear.
