Captain Marvel sequel: Is there a second Captain Marvel movie? Will Brie Larson return?

Captain Marvel debuted as the first fully female-led Marvel film, with Brie Larson playing the complex Carol Danvers. The film sees our hero’s progression from galactic enforcer to turncoat vigilante, with a special appearance from Avengers initiator Nick Fury. The film fleshed out the Marvel universe in an unexpected direction, with the introduction of long-time Marvel Comics villains the Skrulls. Now, audiences are clamouring for another outing with the hot-tempered hero, and this may come in the future.

Will there be a second Captain Marvel movie?

Captain Marvel debuted to incredible box office success, with a total of £720 million ($930 million) in worldwide revenue.

The film had a budget of £115 million ($152 million), meaning the total success is nearly 1000 percent more than the initial investment.

Incredible fan reception coupled with such a gigantic profit means Marvel executives will be wanting to build on this success some time in the future.

Talking to ScreenRant, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has hinted there could be future solo outings for Carol Danvers.

He said: “The making of a first film is in some ways a brainstorm on the future and on what can be.

“So what it will be again is not clear.

“But what it could be is pretty amazing.”

Will Brie Larson return?

One thing which is confirmed is Brie Larson’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Much like Marvel’s other heroes, she will be starring in other cross-over films.

The next time we see her will be in Avengers: Endgame, where Carol Danvers is tipped to play a major part.

According to Kevin Feige, Captain Marvel could well be more powerful than the Marvel Universe’s genocidal Mad Titan.

The Marvel exec revealed Carol’s true power levels before Captain Marvel came out earlier this year.

He said: “She’s one of the most powerful characters in the comics and will be the most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Carol Danvers may well be powerful enough to take down Thanos alone, meaning she will be a major tool in ending the fight during Avengers: Endgame.
