Coronation Street spoilers: Gary Windass blackmails Carla Connor in dangerous new plot

Carla (played by Alison King) has been undergoing her own crisis on Coronation Street after the businesswoman realised she could be responsible for what happened in the major factory collapse.

Things became incredibly serious when Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) lost her life in a heartbreaking move for the ITV soap.

Rana had just tied the knot to the love of her life Kate Connor (Faye Brooks), but as the instalment came to a close, all viewers could see was the character lay beneath the rubble – and wearing a wedding dress covered in blood.

And while Carla struggles with her own guilt, the last thing she needs is Gary (Mikey North) deciding to get involved.

In the latest episode the father-of-one threatened to expose Carla for negligence on the safety of the factory roof.

While the investigation is still underway, Carla’s actions may have inadvertently caused the structure to give way in one of the most harrowing scenes on the soap yet.

Gary quickly became angry when he was forced to sit back and simply watch Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) take his ex-wife Carla away to Southampton in the middle of the tragedy.

Peter had pledged to give Gary £10,000 if he could keep Carla’s almighty secret she’d ignored some vital repair work on the building.

Gary had been the one who pressed Carla to get on with the maintenance, and may well be the only other person – aside from Peter – who knows what she did.

But having been aware of the potential danger and risk to life, Gary is struggling with his own culpability in the accident.

Can the reason the decision to keep quiet after such an awful tragedy? Or will he simply take out all his anger on Carla instead?

Finally getting hold of Peter, a furious Gary demanded to know why the character had simply fled the cobbles with Carla in tow, as he still hadn’t received his money.

Realising he was backed into a corner, Peter tried to reason with Gary and insisted he simply needed a bit more time to sell his boat.

Viewers may remember the vessel went up in flames earlier this year.

Unfortunately, Gary quickly reaches the end of his tether and simply wants to be rid of any implication in the factory collapse.

Strapped for cash and struggling in his job, Gary wants to cut the money and run, but when Peter can’t deliver, what will Gary resort to?

Will he be the one to expose Carla’s actions to the police, putting an end to the factory inquiry once and for all?

Or is there a more sinister reason behind the storyline?

Coronation Street continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV.
