The Chase’s Anne Hegerty lost a STONE – but how did the ITV quiz star do it?

Anne Hegerty is better known to many as “The Governess” and a Chaser on popular ITV quiz show The Chase.

The British brain is known for her impressive knowledge which often sees her rob hopeful contestants of thousands on the programme.

In her stern persona “The Governess”, Anne is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to battle of the intellect.

However, British TV fans were won over when she appeared as a contestant in the 2018 series of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!.

How did Anne Hegerty lose weight?

The well-known programme lands a host of celebrities in the Australian outback, forcing them to survive in the jungle while completing tasks for food.

And it is this which helped the Chaser to lose a stone.

Anne came seventh in the series, which saw many of the celebrity contestants losing weight thanks to the harsh conditions of the show.

At the time a source told the Sun: “We believe between them the campmates have lost around four stone.

“What the celebs are eating is very healthy, from veg to meat protein and fish and that is absorbed quickly by the body. The weight loss doesn’t do any permanent damage, and most pile it back on within three weeks, especially in the build up to Christmas.

“The celebs see it as a detox, although at the same time it is very difficult as they have nothing to distract them from the hunger.”

Anne made up a significant portion of this weight loss among campmates, with her weight loss of a stone. However, this may not have been achieved through what might be considered healthy methods.

Appearing on This Morning after her stint in the outback, Anne got graphic when discussing her weight loss on the ITV programme.

She told Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humeson: “The trouble is really there is no salt.

“About a week ago my digestive system just said to me ‘I’m sorry, I’m not having any more rice.

“I can have beans, I can have rice and beans but I am having no more rice because it is just going straight through’.

“So since then I’ve not had rice by itself. It just went straight through me.”

It was during this series that Anne also opened up about that fact she was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in 2005.

Anne Hegerty’s Asperger’s is a form of autism but she didn’t receive diagnosis until she was 45.

Describing living with Asperger’s on The Jeremy Vine Show she said: “Because you know there are people who don’t always understand how it works or how to relate to me. I’m kind of torn here, I’m aware that we can be an awful pain to our parents when we are young – and even when we’re older.

“I do feel slightly sorry for my mum, who basically didn’t know what she’d ended up with.”

Another TV star who has lost an impressive amount of weight is Fern Britton.

What was Fern Britton’s diet plan to help her lost an amazing five stone? She took the decision to have a gastric band operation.

The operation sees a soft band put around the upper part of the stomach. This effectively makes your stomach smaller, so you can eat less in one sitting.
