PS Plus users are just hours away from discovering what new games are being added to the digital library in April.
No hints have been dropped by Sony on what could be included, and there has been a lack of helpful leaks this month to tell us what is being planned.
The usual predictions have been made, with fans trying to guess just what Sony will offer PlayStation Plus gamers in April 2019.
But until the tech giant makes their announcement later today, we won’t know for certain what will be made available on the first Tuesday of next month.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and The Witness are the current free PS4 games that can be downloaded and played as part of the PS Plus roster for March.
And since 2018 managed to cram in so many top titles, fans are hoping that more AAA games will be coming soon.
The big announcement will be made later today at around 4:30pm, GMT, and will feature all the latest PS Plus news.
This will include a full reveal of all the new PS4 games, but nothing for PS3 and PS Vita.
For those that don’t know, March was the last month to feature games for the older systems, with April and beyond focusing solely on PS4 titles.
And while that may come as bad news to some PS Plus subscribers, there has been some interesting news for those who use the PlayStation Network regularly.
An old patent filed by Sony has been peaking fan interest again due to it being recently renewed by the tech giant.
According to new reports, Sony filed a patent back in 2015 that hinted at a system that would allow gamers to use the PSN to trade digital games.
And while this doesn’t mean the company will be making any big announcements on the subject in the near future, it’s interesting to see it hasn’t been allowed to expire.
The official description reads: “At a later date, the user (e.g., owner) is free to give away, sell or trade the digital copy to another party in transaction with terms based on, for example, the determined value of the digital copy.”
If this feature was adopted by Sony it would make it possible to trade games you no longer played, an option which would no doubt prove very popular with fans.
The PlayStation Network and its expanded ecosystem, including PlayStation Plus, has become an important part of Sony’s business.
It generates a lot of revenue and is the sort of subscription system that many companies want to implement in their own platforms.
So while this remains a filed patent and could stay that way forever, it’s interesting to see it pop up again in 2019.
For those wanting the latest free PS Plus games to play, the ones being announced today will not go straight into the PlayStation Store.
April’s PlayStation Plus selection will be available to download next week, probably on Tuesday, April 2.
So there is plenty of time to add the current crop of games to your digital library.
It should be noted that the content you have downloaded as part of your PlayStation Plus subscription at no charge is only accessible as long as you are an active subscriber.
The exceptions are free themes and avatars, which you will continue to have access to, even if you are no longer a subscriber.
Anything you have purchased (even if you bought it at a discount) will remain available to you even if your subscription ends.
Also, different countries have different rights, release schedules and, have different things available on their PlayStation Store for this reason.
So this is why you may hear about different games being available in Asia, Europe and North America when it comes to some PS Plus announcements.
