Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Cersei Lannister death clue exposed? It's NOT expected

Season one saw Cersai (played by Lena Headey) adopt a feminine, sexual persona and wear loose, feminine clothing, and at the time this could have been because she had limited power.

While she had no power, the queen had to fit into the box imposed on her by the patriarchal society, but that did not mean she was not secretly raging and plotting her rise to the top.

Now she is queen, the scheming Cersei can dress however she wants and is not scared to bend the gender norms.

Game of Thrones costume designer Michelle Clapton has revealed what Cersei’s outfits represent in the season eight premiere shots: “At this time in Cersei’s story arc, she was feeling threatened by Margaery, and she started to try and emphasise her Lannister power.”

The move to armour and away from the costumes typified by her in the beginning of the series, reflected her new power.

Of the actor’s input she said: “She has great taste and an innate understanding of her character’s journey.”

Clapton also told Entertainment weekly: “I wanted her to wear black as a sign of her deep mourning for her children and father.

“The style of her dresses are [like] armour. She is untouchable — she no longer has to use her sexuality to procure what she wants. She has to some extent become androgynous.

“She finally has what she always wanted, but was it worth it?”

Could Michelle be suggesting that now she has the power as Queen, Cersei no longer needs to have power through sexuality? And as a result, is she set to meet the same fate as some of the other warriors in Westeros?

Sadly the rise to power and the shift to protective armour has coincided with deep and tragic loss for the mother-of-three.

She has lost her children, her father and, in season seven, she lost her brother-lover Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) as he deserted her to head north.

Now, as she prepares to go into the Battle of Winterfell, will the ultimate loss be her life?

The only loss she can suffer now is that of her crown and life, but will the power-hungry queen manage to defeat her enemies as the series hurtles towards its conclusion?

Some fans believe she will die in order to become the prophesied Night Queen.

It’s well known at the moment, the leader of Kings Landing does not seem too bothered about the threat of the Night King (Vladimir Furdik), is it because secretly she is drawn to his evil ways?

Some fans believe Cersei will become the Night Queen in a desperate bid to rule in any way she can, after failing to succeed against Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

Will the Night King turn her into an immortal and accept Cersei ruling by his side?

Fans will have to wait to find out if the queen survives her biggest battle yet, or if Jaime ends up murdering her instead.

Game of Thrones season eight premieres on April 14 on HBO and Sky Atlantic and on NOW TV on April 15.
