The plot synopsis for Beautiful Boy reads: “Teenager Nicolas Sheff (played by Timothée Chalamet) seems to have it all with good grades and being an actor, artist, athlete, and editor of the school newspaper. When Nic’s addiction to meth threatens to destroy him, his father (Steve Carrell) does whatever he can to save his son and family. The movie is based on the memoirs of its main characters, Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction by David Sheff and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff.

Rotten Tomatoes gives Beautiful Boy a 68 percent fresh rating, indicating mixed but positive reviews.
The critics’ consensus reads: “Beautiful Boy sees Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell delivering showcase work that’s often powerful enough to make up for the story’s muted emotional impact.”
Beautiful Boy is the English language feature debut from veteran Belgian director Felix Van Groeningen.
The movie toured the film festival circuit in 2018 before being released in the UK in January 2019.
But some countries have yet to get the film in cinemas.
Japan and Italy are still awaiting a theatrical debut, on April 12 and June 13 respectively.
The movie was nominated for six awards, including a Golden Globe and BAFTA.
