WrestleMania: Why The Undertaker vs Sting WWE dream match never happened

Wrestling fans always wanted to see The Stinger and Undertaker go at it because their dark, sinister and supernatural gimmicks made them very identical during their prime in WCW and WWE respectively.

However, The Icon didn’t join WWE until very late in 2014 and McMahon didn’t deliver the highly-anticipated dream match as he instead put him in a feud with Triple H.

Sting suffered a career-ending neck injury a year later when he challenged Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship at Night of Champions.

The super fight never happened due to poor timing and bad luck but the publisher and editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Metlzer also claims that The Chairman was never keen to book it.

Sting recently stated that he would only come out of retirement to battle Taker but Meltzer argued that WWE are being more careful with the senior wrestlers after Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler suffered a heart attack live on RAW shortly after competing in a match in 2012.

The WCW legend is 60 years old and Undertaker, who now wrestlers on a part-time basis, is 54.

Meltzer said: “WWE’s really careful with older guys because of what happened with Lawler.

“Vince was never hot on that match anyway.

“I mean people were for whatever reason.

“Sting’s already 60.”

Sting hasn’t been linked with a WrestleMania appearance following his surprise return last month for Ric Flair’s 70th birthday.

It also looks like Undertaker won’t wrestle at Mania for the first time since 2001 as he is not part of any plans.

However, The Deadman is still expected to appear at the Show of Shows in some capacity.

The Phenom has been included in various WWE promotional materials ahead of The Showcase of the Immortals.
