NFL owners fold to Saints OUTRAGE with new pass interference rule

The decision also includes pass interference calls that are not called on the field by officials to be made subject to review.

Coaches will be able to challenge those calls in the first 28 minutes of each half.

And in the final two minutes of each half, those calls will be subject to a booth review.

For a proposal to be passed it needs 75 per-cent of the owners to agree.

They passed this suggestion 31-1 at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting in Phoenix on Tuesday.

The Cincinnati Bengals were the only team to vote against pass interference replay reviews, reports NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The rule will only be in place for 2019 and will be evaluated after the season.

This announcement will be bittersweet for New Orleans Saints fans, as it was a missed pass interference call during their Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams which caused outrage across the NFL.

It began when the Saints had possession of the ball with 1:49 left on the clock in the fourth quarter.

Brees dropped back and threw a pass in the direction of Tommylee Lewis on the sideline.

As Lewis made a move to catch the ball near the 5-yard-line, Rams corner Nickell Robey-Coleman smashed into the Saints receiver before to the ball got to him.

No flags were thrown by the officials and the home crowd and the Saints bench showed their disapproval.

As the rules stood at the time because no-call was made, the incident was not reviewable.

Los Angeles went on to tie up the game and send it to overtime, after which Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein sealed victory with a 57-yard field goal.

Despite the additional plays that are now reviewable by instant replay coaches will not be given any more challenge flags and will still have two for the 2019 season.
