Fort Lauderdale PLUNGED into darkness after HUGE fire at Florida power plant

Most of the city has been left without power following the blaze.

Firefighters are on the scene.

Florida Power and Light reported more than 900 homes were without power around 8.30pm ET (0.30am GMT).

The company estimated that power would be restored around 10.30pm (2.30am GMT).

Unverified video footage posted on social media appears to show huge flames engulfing the power station building, with emergency vehicles at the scene.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to 200 Northwest Sixth Street around 8.00pm ET (midnight GMT), Miami News reported.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The company has reported more than 20,000 customers without fire in Broward County, Local 10 News reported.

However, it is unclear whether all outages are related to the fire due to thunderstorms in the area.
