Six injured as rocket hits house in central Israel

Residents of Hasharon and Emek Hefer districts north of Tel Aviv said they heard the blasts. The Israeli army said it was looking into the reports after a weekend that saw low-level violence along the restive border. A siren was sounded on Monday morning, at approximately 5:18 a.m., in the Sharon area.

Local residents reported hearing explosions and the sound of a rocket falling.

The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) confirmed that one launch was identified as having been launched from Gaza.

According to reports, the rocket exploded in a community in the Sharon region, and several people were lightly injured.

The Israel Police said the house caught fire, but emergency services said no one was trapped in it.

A week and a half ago, the Israeli army attacked some 100 targets in Gaza in response to two rockets being fired at Tel Aviv from the Strip the evening before, a first since the 2014 war.

The last time rocket alerts were activated in Tel Aviv was two years ago, in what turned out to be a false alarm.

The IDF said that the rockets were launched accidentally.

According to assessments, militants fired two M-75 Fajr missiles while carrying out maintenance work, as representatives of the Palestinian factions in Gaza met with Egyptian mediators.

A 50-year-old woman sustained light-to-moderate injuries and two infants who were lightly wounded.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze and to look for any survivors who might be trapped in the destroyed building.

The Israeli military said it was investigating the source of the rocket attack.

There were no immediate reports of an Israeli retaliaition.
