One of the stars of the show has spoken about their character meeting a tragic end midway through the series.

Transgender actress Talisa Garcia, who portrayed coffee shop owner Kim Vogel, has opened up about her character getting killed off in the series.

Audiences watched how Kim’s life sadly unravelled after she helped a sex worker hide from the Romanian mafia and her former identity as kingpin Dragomir Zelincu was revealed, making her a target.

Her death occurred shortly after she had an argument with her boyfriend Greg (Trystan Gravelle) after he learnt she was trans.

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER SERIES OF BAPTISTE?

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, actress Garcia, 45, explained: “I think when I read it, I knew she was going to die which I was ready for.

“After reading every single episode, I think it’s one hundred percent the right choice, it is the right thing.

“I don’t know if she should have lasted till episode six. I think episode four was the right thing and I think it was beautifully written. I was very pleased with that.”

She continued: “Obviously no actor wants to die in something. For me, four episodes was fantastic, and I wanted a dramatic end to her.

DOES TCHEKY KARYO REALLY HAVE A LIMP?

“I don’t know if I had wanted them to live happily ever after. It wouldn’t have been the same.

“I think the brothers [creators Harry and Jack Williams] know exactly what they’re writing and how they’re writing it and that’s why they are who they are, so I think, no, for me it was definitely the right decision and I loved it.”

Reflecting on the tough scenes in which Kim’s boyfriend broke up with her, Garcia said: “I’ve always wanted to play the transsexual who comes out to her boyfriend and I was just so, so pleased and people have taken so well to it. There were shocks, which was the whole point of it. But yeah, it was amazing.”

On shooting the scenes in question with her co-star Gravelle, she admitted: “That day was the one day we didn’t really speak to each other for most of the day apart from when we were acting together. We were both in dark moods.

WHO IS IN THE CAST OF BAPTISTE ON BBC?

“I just thought about a lot of sad things and things that have happened to me and I have also experienced this coming out, telling people, telling guys and they don’t all accept it that well.”

She added: “I’ve experienced it, so I’ve had a lot of emotions that I could dig in deep and get them and work with.”

The Chilean-born English actress has previously had roles in BBC daytime drama Doctors, Silent Witness and film Enduring Love.

She is currently in the process of auditioning and will be doing a National Theatre workshop in April.
