Liverpool news: Alberto Moreno flies abroad to seal transfer WITHOUT telling Jurgen Klopp

That’s according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Spaniard is out of contract at the Reds at the end of this season having spent five years at Anfield.

Given Moreno’s status as back up to Andy Robertson, Liverpool have not tabled an extension – nor do they plan to before the summer.

The former Sevilla star has played just five times this season and has spoken out against Klopp over his lack of game-time.

The 26-year-old was pictured with Lucas Leiva on Instagram in Rome to reportedly pen a pre-contract deal this week.

The pair were good friends at Liverpool, having spent three seasons together before Lucas joined Serie A outfit Lazio in 2017.

But the Echo adds that Moreno is not necessarily under any obligation to inform Liverpool over his next move – having not said whether or not he plans to join Lazio.

Moreno cost Liverpool £12million when he signed under Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014 but his stock at the club fell due to disappointing performances.

Having started just two of the Merseyside outfit’s 31 Premier League games this season, Moreno is surplus to requirements.

But he could be called upon when Liverpool host Porto in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals next month.

That’s because Roberston picked up a yellow card in a win at Bayern Munich earlier this month to rule him out of the tie.

Veteran midfielder James Milner, however, could be seen as a more reliable option having spent the full 2016-17 season in the position following Moreno’s horrendous display in the Europa League final – which Liverpool lost 3-1 to his former club Sevilla.

The Independent claim that Real Betis had shown interest in Moreno but that the player’s ties to arch rivals Sevilla meant a deal was unlikely.

Lazio’s rivals Roma were also linked but appear to have changed targets after sporting director Monchi left the club.

Moreno’s departure will however leave Liverpool without a natural back-up left-back in the senior squad.

Klopp could look to promote highly-rated under-23 talent Adam Lewis – who has previously trained with the first team at Melwood.

The Liverpool-born 19-year-old has impressed for the club’s youth team and signed a new long-term contract with the club back in February.
