Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Daenerys Targaryen to use DROGON to claim the throne?

Game of Thrones is coming to an end. This year. And frankly, many fans are not ready to lose the HBO show just yet.

But HBO are working hard in promoting the upcoming season with a plethora of promotional materials, including a brand new trailer, and some images of the cast.

Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) currently has perhaps the best claim for the fabled Iron Throne – and therefore the best stake for the entirety of Westeros.

Despite his royal blood and the support from the fans of the show, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) may have the best chance of winning.

This is mainly due to Daenerys’ two gargantuan dragons – Drogon and Rhaegal.

And HBO may have just teased more is to come from the creatures in a brand new post online.

The official Game of Thrones Twitter account posted an image which had the initials of the show intertwined within the prongs of the Iron Throne.

However that’s not all, as the bottom of the image of the throne shows two large orange dragon eyes, as the swords which make up the throne gradually become dragon’s scales.

The dragon looks like Drogon, who is the chosen mount of Daenerys – does this mean she will be vying for the throne?

The centre of the image shows the hilts of two swords, potentially hinting at two parties fighting for the throne.

Although one side will certainly be Daenerys – as illustrated by the appearance of Drogon in the poster – who will be the other?

Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) currently sits atop the throne, and doesn’t show any signs of budging, but many characters are looking to try their luck.

Jon’s aforementioned stake to the throne may not be received well by Daenerys if she believes he is trying to take her down from under her nose.

But let’s not forget the biggest threat in the show right now: the Night King (Vladimir Furdik).

He has perhaps the largest army in the world, at the moment, and an undead-blue-fire-breathing dragon – so he is certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Will the heroes be able to defeat the Night King, or will they be too enthralled with battling each other to notice?

Recently Jaime Lannister star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau spoke about his final scenes in the show.

Speaking to Star 2 he explained: “I had a great last scene. It was absolutely beautiful. It was the perfect way to end.”

However he went on to add: “Obviously I can’t tell you what the scene was.

“It wasn’t the final scene [of the series], but it was close to the end, and it was shot at a beautiful location.”

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on April 14 on HBO and Sky Atlantic on April 15.
