Shazam runtime: How long is Shazam? Full runtime revealed

Shazam is the latest in a long line of comic book adaptation movies. The Warner Bros adaptation of the famed DC Comics character is heading to cinemas on Friday, April 5. Initial reactions on Twitter from fans lucky enough to attend an early screening have been positive.

How long is Shazam?

The full runtime for Shazam is two hours and 12 minutes.

Compared to many other superhero movies, this is a rather short runtime.

Captain Marvel clocked in at a slightly shorter two hours and five minutes.

However, Jason Momoa-led blockbuster Aquaman was almost two and a half hours.

And of course, Avengers: Infinity War ran a length two hours and 40 minutes.

Avengers: Endgame is shaping up to be the longest superhero film yet.

But Shazam’s short runtime may have something to do with its target demographic.

The film has a far sillier, lighter tone suited to a younger audience.

Like many other superhero films, Shazam does have a post credit scene which extends the runtime ever so slightly.

This was confirmed by the movie’s producer himself, Peter Safran.

Of the scene, Safran said: “We had a lot of options. I think we ended up with something good.”

The film may be part of a shared DC Comics universe but will not tie into any other films.

The plot of Shazam reads: “Billy Batson is a streetwise 14-year-old who can magically transform into the adult superhero Shazam simply by shouting out one word.

“His newfound powers soon get put to the test when he squares off against the evil Dr Thaddeus Sivana.”

Zachary Levi stars as the adult Shazam, with Asher Angel playing the young Billy Batson.

Mark Strong plays the villain Dr Sivana, with Djimon Hounsou as the mysterious wizard who grants Billy his powers.

Shazam is out in cinemas on Friday, April 5, 2019.
