Riverdale stunned viewers when Evelyn Evernever (Zoé De Grand Maison) appeared to hand Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) a brownie laced with marijuana in episode 16, entitled Big Fun.
While the show got off to a relatively happy start with fan-favourites including Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhar) singing their hearts out in the Heathers: The Musical, it quickly turned dark.
Following rehearsals, everyone went to a party at the Farm, which is sponsoring the play, and performed the ‘Big Fun’.
At the party, Evelyn gave Kevin a ‘shroom’ brownie, with him later behaving rather odd after taking a bite out of the cake.
Viewers suspected the snack contained weed when Kevin appeared to be having hallucinations and told Fangs Fogarty (Drew Ray Tanner) the next day that he was being haunted by Midge.
Questioning what Evelyn had put in the brownie, fans of the show raced to Twitter to discuss the puzzling scenes in the teen drama series.
One stated: “Those are drug brownies. Probably candy badness,” as another declared: “That’s a weed brownie.”
A third person asked: “Did Evelyn just hand Kevin a laced brownie?” while a fourth added: “Why is Evelyn giving Kevin spiked brownies?”
Someone else tweeted: “Did Evelyn just give Kevin a pot brownie? And then there’s Midge. Oh. Hello.”
Prior to Kevin eating the treat, one fan attempted to warn him, with them saying: “But God dammit! Kevin don’t eat that brownie!”
Also during the episode, Veronica discovered her parents were separating when she came home to change for the party.
Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) announced he would be staying at the Five Season indefinitely as he knew Hermione (Marisol Nichols) sold his drugs from under him while he was in hospital.
Naturally, Veronica was upset and later told the group her parents split, but her problems worsened when a secret was revealed.
Sweet Pea (Jordan Connor) casually let slip her ex-boyfriend Archie is now seeing her friend Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) just weeks after they broke up.
To top it all off, Reggie rejected Veronica, telling her they should not see each other right now.
Meanwhile, Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) and Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) continued their bitter break-up, by airing out their dirty laundry at school.
When Toni waltzed into the building wearing an-all red outfit, Cheryl lost it, warning her not to wear the colour: “I am red”.
Afterwards, she told her she wanted her out of her house? Could this really be the end of Choni?
