Louise Redknapp: Harry Redknapp opens up on Jamie split 'Couldn't see it happening'

Louise Redknapp, 44, and Jamie Redknapp, 45, finalised their divorce at the end of 2017 after 19 years of marriage. Speaking to Express.co.uk, Harry Redknapp, 72, said: “That was obviously a difficult time for us. You could never see it happening,” he admitted. “We love Lou, so we were sad to see it happen.”

Harry explained the break-up was amicable, saying he and his wife Sandra still spend time with their grandchildren and remain close with Louise’s mother.

“We see the kids still, the grandkids, and Sandra’s great friends with Louise’s mum,” he said.

“What can you do? These things happen in life unfortunately.”

Meanwhile, Harry, who recently became the brand ambassador for BetVictor.com, also opened up about his 54-year-marriage to Sandra.

On the subject of the secret to a happy marriage, he said: “I just fell in love with Sandra, to be truthful, and I’ve never fallen out of love with her. So I wouldn’t know, really.

“She’s my life and has been since I met her when we were 17,” he continued.

“That’s how I am with her, I couldn’t say any different. I’ve been lucky, very lucky.”

Louise and Jamie are parents to two sons, Charley, 14, and Beau, 10.

Last month, the singer finally broke her silence on their divorce during an interview on Heart Radio.

“It’s been really tough,” she admitted. “But I mean, you know, he’s my best friend.

“It’s been really tough but things happen,” she added, saying she had seen Jamie the day before for school meetings.

Elsewhere, last year’s King of the Jungle Harry recently fronted two-part series Harry’s Heroes: The Full English for ITV.

The programme saw former manager Harry back at the helm in charge of a team of ex-England football stars including Mark Chamberlain, 57, and Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, 50, while they attempted to shed the pounds by getting back on the pitch and adjusting their diets.

Harry Redknapp revealed The Full English was hit by a major setback when John Barnes, 55, had to pull out of the team.

“John was gonna play but he got injured at his son’s wedding,” he told Express.co.uk.

“He got a bad injury, he ruptured his knee ligament and dislocated his shoulder and really made a mess of himself.

“But John was a great, great player and I was looking forward to seeing him play again,” Harry continued.

“He wanted to lose weight but he couldn’t so he ended up working as my assistant, which was good fun.”

Harry is fronting BetVictor’s #HeyHarry campaign, appearing in adverts on radio and TV, and is also the face of the bookies’ new chatbot feature.

“I’ve done a couple adverts and I went to Cheltenham races last week for one day, which was nice,” he said cheerfully. “Nice day out.”
