Emilia Clarke: 'I nearly lost my life' Game of Thrones star reveals life-threatening pain

Emilia Clarke, 32, shared the details in a candid interview with The New Yorker and admitted she “nearly lost her mind”. The actress explained that she had just finished filming the first season of the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones in 2011 when she had her initial brain aneurysm while working out with a trainer. She told the publication: “Just when all my childhood dreams seemed to have come true, I nearly lost my mind and then my life. “I’ve never told this story publicly, but now it’s time.”

The beauty revealed that she had been undertaking exercise to relieve the stress of her new-found fame but soon started to feel a ‘bad headache and fatigue’, yet she forced herself to continue the gruelling workout.

However, once she was in a plank position she felt as though “an elastic band was squeezing my brain” before running to the bathroom where she described she was “violently, voluminously ill”.

The star admitted she was then sent to hospital following the incident.

An aneurysm can develop in any blood vessel including the brain and if it ruptures can cause severe headaches, sickness and vomiting and extensive brain damage, according to the NHS.

Emilia has since taken to her Instagram account today to upload a short clip where she revealed she has now launched a new charity in support of brain injury.

She captioned the video: “THE MOST EXCITING NEWS EVER FOR THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING! The charity I have been working on for a fair few years goes live today!!!

“@sameyouorg is full to bursting with love, brain power and the help of amazing people with amazing stories. @newyorkermag published my story, now I’d like to hear yours!” followed with the hashtags #sameyoucharity #sameyourecovery #braininjury #letschangehowwehelp #letsbreakthesilence #youarenotalone #love.”

In the short video, the HBO star said: “Hi guys, so today I launched a charity. It’s been a number of years in the making and I really sincerely hope that you click on the link in my bio.

“Have a look at the hashtags and all the good stuff underneath this video and let me know what you think.

“I really, I kept quiet about something that’s happened to me for quite a few years and I wrote a piece for the New Yorker and you can find that piece there.”

She added: “Click on the link in my bio and you’ll find out all about the charity I’ve started there. And I really sincerely would love to hear what you think. I would love to hear your stories.

“Because that’s why I started this.”

Fans bombarded the comment section, after the short click gained over 1,560,000 likes, as one person wrote: “Such an amazing story. Thank you for sharing your struggles so transparently and striving to give back what you have received. I was genuinely moved to tears. SUCH a fan.”

Another person replied: “You, Emilia Clarke, are bl**dy brilliant. No one would ever have suspected you were fightings dragons whilst conquering others. Amazing woman! xx”(sic)

While a third person added: “Wow, wow, wow. Seriously a powerful and moving story – what an incredible thing to share. Such a lovely charity!!!”

Meanwhile, Emilia completed filming on Game of Thrones season eight last year and has since spoken out about saying goodbye to the character of Daenerys after playing her for 10 years.

“I felt completely lost,” she told the Daily Mail. “It’s like losing an actual limb.

Game of Thrones season 8 returns April 14 on HBO in the US, and the next day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
