Alex Jones in disagreement with The One Show co-star Matt Baker over surprising reason

Alex Jones, who has hosted The One Show with Matt Baker since 2010, looked puzzled by a remark he made yesterday during the latest instalment. The presenter’s confusion came about after a segment was shown and, as the focus returned to the BBC studio, she agreed with what had been said. A number of clips from the general public were heard, discussing if they had turned into their mother or father as they’d got older. The pregnant 42-year-old said she was already just like her mum and, when her fellow star, 41, said the same, she was having none of it.

“Well… I’m already there,” Alex started. “Fully Mary’d up! Yep…”

Matt then stated: “I’m more like my mum than my dad,” but his companion looked baffled as soon as he’d finished.

“Do you think?” she questioned, as he continued: “Yeah. Yeah, I do.”

However, as he looked down at his notes on the table, Alex mouthed what looked like: “He’s not.”

Matt was brought up in Durham where his parents had a farm, interested in the likes of sheepdog trails and pole vaulting.

He went on to study drama at Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret University before going to land his first major TV role in 2000 on Blue Peter.

Meanwhile, Alex was born in Carmarthenshire and went to a Welsh language school and the University of Wales.

She got into the showbiz world after becoming a researcher as well as appearing on Sky1 show Prickly Heat.

During the same programme, Alex and Matt were temporarily replaced by younger hosts in honour of the new superhero movie, Shazam!.

Many were no doubt left shocked when they tuned in to find they were not around and instead a duo pretending to be them as children.

But while fans may have been confused by the shake-up, it was revealed to be a nod to new DC Comics superhero film.

Last week saw Matt Baker made a brief intervention when guest Elaine Paige began to divulge a tale regarding actor John Barrowman, forcing the host to issue her a jokey warning.

He and Alex were joined by the legendary entertainer, 71, and screenwriter Richard Curtis, 62.

After discussing the Comic Relief telethon, they quizzed Elaine about her participation in a one-off special of All Star Musicals.

However, it was then the discussion turned to the host of the one-off special and Elaine was told The One Show was a “family show.”

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
