Real Madrid ROCKED as Man Utd target Raphael Varane contemplates summer transfer

Real Madrid defender Varane has long been on Manchester United’s radar, with interest in the France international dating back to Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge.

The World Cup winner was wanted by the Scot in 2011 but ultimately moved to the Bernabeu due to the intervention of Jose Mourinho.

Despite that, Varane has remained on Manchester United’s radar with Ed Woodward dreaming of a blockbuster deal.

Back in the summer, Woodward was prepared to pay £100million to make the 25-year-old their marquee signing.

However, the Red Devils ultimately opted against a pursuit because they thought there little chance of Real selling.

But now, according to French newspaper L’Equipe, Varane is weighing up his future.

It is claimed the France international, who has won the lot during his time with Real, is contemplating a new challenge elsewhere.

Zinedine Zidane’s sensational Bernabeu return could be enough for the defender to stay put and stuck it out.

But competition for places next season is expected to be fierce.

Meanwhile, Varane recently insisted he had evolved from the player who suffered at the 2014 World Cup five years ago.

The centre-back was bullied by Germany’s Mats Hummels but has won silverware aplenty in the time since.

And Varane said: “I put that behind me now.

“Anyway, it is part of everyday life for a defender: you win some duels, you lose some.

“My timing is better today and I have learned how to use my body more cleverly.”
