Pixel 3 just received a major speed boost as Google cuts the price of this flagship

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL debuted back in November and presented fans with a number of notable changes over the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

First and foremost, both reduced bezels on their respective front panels, meaning the screen-to-body ratio for each was much higher than their predecessors.

Moreover, both also felt more premium in the hand thanks to a new frosted glass rear that also allowed for wireless charging functionality.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were powered by Qualcomm’s now last-generation Snapdragon 845 processor that was accompanied by 4GB of RAM.

The Snapdragon chipset can be clocked at different speeds for varying levels of performance.

Assuming a device is able to maintain its heat levels, a higher clock speed typically delivers more capable performance.

When the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL launched, the Snapdragon unit inside had a clock speed of 2.45GHz.

However at the time, other notable Android flagships such as the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9, ran the same processor with a clock speed of 2.8GHz.

But, as noted by Android Headlines, it appears the newly-released Android Q beta for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL has upped its speed.

The outlet posted a screenshot of a Pixel 3 running the Android Q beta that showed its processor running at 2.8GHz.

Moreover, it was noted the higher number meant it appeared the Google handset was running more smoothly overall.

After downloading the beta Alex Maxham, the section editor for Android Police, tweeted: “So far, Android Q is running smoother than Android Pie on my Pixel 3 XL.

“That’s how bad Pie has been on the Pixel 3 XL.”

It is worth noting while it appears the Android Q beta has upped the speed of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, it is unknown if this will be the case when the final version of the software releases later this year.

The news of a Pixel 3 speed boost comes as Google is discounting the flagship by £125.

At the moment the standard Pixel 3 can be picked up for just £614 and the Pixel 3 XL for £744.
