Kodi boost as TV Player gets the news some fans have been waiting for

With over 30 million users, Kodi is one of the most popular online TV players in the world.

However, despite it being totally legal to use, Kodi continues to cause some controversy which is mainly due to the fact it can be easily adapted to allow users to view premium content without paying for it.

Using these so-called add-ons is something the team at Kodi have tried to distance themselves from but the spotlight remains firmly on this illegal practice.

With millions thought to be using online TV players to access movies and sports without a subscription, there’s been a huge push from content providers to block this practice.

To make matters worse for Kodi, Sony recently appeared to block the app from its connected TVs.

Kodi announced the news to fans in a tweet which said: “Well done @SonyElectronics for actively preventing users from installing Kodi on their newer Android TVs. How grown up of you.

“Even their firmware in the TVs is broken. Guess we will suggest users to just buy something else that does work.”

At the time Sony responded to claims by saying: “Kodi is one of several thousand apps on Google Play on Sony’s Android TVs.

“While Sony does curate recommended apps, we cannot and do not block Google Play apps.”

Now it seems full service has resumed with owners of Sony TVs once again able to access the player.

In a recent post on its update page, Sony confirmed that they had now fixed the issue with the Japanese firm saying the upgrade, “resolves a condition where you are unable to install the Kodi app.”

This update, which also fixes a number of other issues, is available now on models include the XBR-65A9F – XBR-55A9F – XBR-75Z9F and the XBR-65Z9F.

The news of this fix comes as Kodi recently released its next big upgrade named 18 Leia.

This new software offers improved gaming, music library and better access to live TV.

News of Kodi 18 Leia first emerged last year but the major software update has been in development for “a little longer” than anticipated.

This is because the Kodi update includes “significant changes” that “needed to be tested and bedded in” before launch.
