Karen Clifton Instagram: Strictly star in floods of tears after rejection 'I feel c**p'

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 36, claimed she had been to a barber shop to get her hair cut but had been denied service because she was a woman. “I don’t ever really do posts like this but I thought this was really important because this has never really happened to me before,” she told her 161,000 Instagram followers, looking distressed.”I just went to get my hair cut, to  barbers, Jack’s Barber, actually, to be truthful. Jack’s of London or whatever it’s called,” she continued. She claimed she had her hair cut at the same shop twice before but, on this occasion, was told: “The owner doesn’t allow women to get their hair cut here.” Clearly upset, she said: “I felt really c**p because this has never really happened to me before.

“The fact that I was a woman and I couldn’t go and get my hair cut because it was an all male… What are we, like in the Stone Ages?” she added.

“It really affected me and I just feel really, really c**p.

“I’m not getting anything fancy done, even if I was, the fact that I was turned away because no women allowed.”

Karen claimed there were two barbers free and only one customer.

She recalled getting her hair cut at the shop before by two women, adding: “The time when there were no women in there and I went in, they said I couldn’t get my hair cut.

“This is ridiculous and I’ve never felt this before and I’ve never experiences this before and it’s not right. It shouldn’t be that way.”

Sue Whitehead, founder of Jacks of London, told Express.co.uk: “I appreciate that Karen has alerted us to the anomaly within our policy that suggested we do not cater for women, and we have begun an immediate review to correct this.

“I opened my Wimbledon barber store 25 years ago as a traditional male space for men who didn’t want to go to a hair salon. Back then it was important to emphasise it was for men. The Jacks of London brand is now synonymous with quality service and outstanding barbering, but, increasingly, women have visited asking for barber cuts by our award-winning barbers and we have delivered. Karen, herself, has had her hair done twice before at our store.

“I and the store team apologise that the member of staff in question was not aware of this. I understand now that we must make it more explicit to our team that anyone who wants a barber cut is welcome in our store regardless of gender.”

Karen underwent a dramatic makeover in December after the Strictly Come Dancing final.

She unveiled her new look, with shaved sides and long hair swept over in an edgy asymmetric style, on Instagram, saying: “Never be afraid to make changes because of hat people will think of you or because they won’t like it.

“Being happy with who you want to be is what matters,” she added.

“Chopped a bit of my hair to feel refreshed and to continue fine tuning the person I am. Just happy. Just me.”

Karen has been part of the professional line-up on Strictly Come Dancing since 2012.

She is married to fellow dancer Kevin Clifton, 36, but the couple confirmed their split last year.

The Venezuelan-born beauty has since moved on with her new opera singer beau David Webb.

Although the pair have not spoken publicly about their relationship, they can regularly be seen featuring on each other’s social media pages and visited New York together over Christmas.

Meanwhile, Kevin recently spoke out about his love life, telling OK! Magazine dating wasn’t top of his list of priorities at the moment.

“I haven’t been concentrating on it, to be honest,” he said. “I’m not really looking for it, I’m just getting on with my thing.”

During an appearance on Lorraine last week, he opened up on his split from Karen, saying: “We do have a big respect of each other and we just decided that it didn’t have to be sort of argumentative or difficult.

“We just thought, you know what, let’s stay friends. Let’s just work through it in as calm a way as possible. And it’s all good.”
