The head of Tehran’s emergency department confirmed the incident to the Fars news agency, who took to Twitter with an announcement. Emergency services are currently tackling the blaze. The aircraft has been evacuated.
The inferno took place at 9pm local time (6.30pm GMT).
Up to 10 ambulances are on the scene, local news reports.
It is not currently known if any passengers are injured.
The airport is located in the north of the country.
