Zoe Henry: ‘I am struggling’ Emmerdale star opens up about playing Rhona Goskirk

Emmerdale actress Zoe Henry, 45, has been embroiled in a traumatic storyline in the ITV soap, with her character Rhona Goskirk having to undergo a hysterectomy and dealing wth the later changes to her body. Viewers will have witnessed the character attempting to hide what’s happening to her from her on-screen beau Pete Barton (played by Anthony Quinlan) which has resulted in her pushing him away. Speaking to Radio Times about the TV couple’s relationship, Zoe spilled: “He seems to adore her and be prepared to do anything for her. But there’s only so much a man can take. “I am struggling to like her much myself at the moment! She’s so all over the place.”

She continued: “One moment she is yelling at him and the next she’s crying. They’ve only been together a year so the relationship is still in it’s infancy.

“It’s a lot for him to take on but she is strong. But she’s got a long road to travel.”

Rhona has since been taking comfort from her ex-husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and former boyfriend Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).

Speaking about the bond she shares with her former beaus, she said: “Marlon and Rhona have got such a history. They have a child, Leo, together and this great bond. So she can open up to Marlon even above Paddy or Vanessa.

“They just have this great understanding. But it’s really hard for her, she can’t even admit to herself how it is making her feel. So to tell someone else, even someone who she loves as much as Marlon, it’s nigh on impossible.”

Meanwhile, Zoe recently spoke out about the impact of the menopause in an episode of Loose Women last month.

Speaking on the show about Rhona’s operation, the actress said: “I got the scripts and read it and it said Rhona starts with hot sweats immediately. And I was like ’WHAT!’

“And I did a bit of research – and of course that is what happens. It makes sense.”

She continued: “You remove the ovaries and the womb and of course your hormones go crazy.”

Host Ruth Langsford asked the ITV favourite if she had experienced any menopause symptoms herself but added she is probably “too young”.

Zoe replied: “Err…45. I think I’m peri-menopausal. That’s a new word to me.

“But I suspect I’m in that zone.”

Elsewhere, Zoe, who married her co-star Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle), 48, in 2003, shared how the couple own an allotment to help with the latter’s Crohn’s disease.

Crohn’s disease is a lifelong condition in which parts of the digestive system become inflamed, as stated by the NHS.

Zoe admitted while they grow their crops for a good reason, the couple’s two children Violent, 14, and Stan, 10, “hate it”.

Speaking on the show she said: “It’s sort of changed our lives. There’s a lot about mental health and having your hands in the soil, it’s nice to show the kids as well but they hate it.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
