When will Roger Federer play his first match at the Miami Open? Schedule revealed

Roger Federer heads to the Sunshine State having reached the final in Indian Wells.

He was beaten by Dominic Thiem in that match, but Federer is still among the favourites at the Miami Open.

This year’s tournament has moved from Key Biscayne to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and Federer is seeded fourth.

He will receive a bye in the first round, and will take on either Matthew Ebden or a qualifier in his first match.

The men’s singles second round is scheduled to begin on Friday, with all matches set to be played either Friday or Saturday.

So Federer will step onto court in Miami on one of those days, and he will hope to remain in action through to the final on Sunday, March 31.

After his defeat to Thiem, which came despite Federer winning the first set, the Swiss star was adamant he will be ready for the Miami Open.

“The body is perfectly fine,” he said.

“That also always keeps me upbeat, and I feel it’s a privilege when I feel this way leaving a tournament.

“I have been playing every single day for the past three weeks. I can be very happy and proud of that fact.

“I feel really good, so why shouldn’t I go into the tournament and to the event confident?”

Federer could face Stan Wawrinka in the third round at the Miami Open, though he would be kept apart from Novak Djokovic until the final.
