Paulie Malignaggi reveals why Errol Spence Jr vs Manny Pacquiao COULD happen – EXCLUSIVE

The Truth retained his IBF world welterweight title for the third time on Saturday night in style, unanimously outpointing Mikey Garcia in Arlington, Texas.

Spence was in complete control of the bout from the first bell as three judges awarded him every round.

The 29-year-old extended his record to 25-0 while landing 345 of his 1082 punches, a career high.

After the victory, Spence was joined in the ring by Manny Pacquiao, he said: “Tell Manny Pacquiao to come back over here. It would be my honour to fight him next.”

Pacquiao responded: “Yeah, why not? We’ll give the fans a good fight.

“I’m so happy to be here in Dallas and I’m hoping I will be back here soon.”

Spence later made it clear that he would still expect a challenging fight against the veteran, saying: “Oh, it’s definitely a competitive fight.

“Manny Pacquiao, he’s blood and guts. So that’ll definitely be a great fight.

“He’s a future Hall-of-Famer, and he’s on his way out. And I’ll definitely give him that retirement check that he been needing.”

Former welterweight world champion Paul Malignaggi believes the fight could now materialise now that they’re both signed with PBC.

“It would be a fun fight, the Pacquiao fight is a possibility because they’re both signed for the same team now,” he exclusively told Express Sport.

“I think we could perhaps see him take on Terrence Crawford, later on.”

Retired boxer Malignaggi also took the chance to defend Garcia, who took a beating as he jumped up two weight divisions.

“I wouldn’t say it was a mistake [taking the fight] but there are weight classes for a reason,” he added.

“Hindsight is always twenty-twenty.

“A lot of people going into this fight thought Errol was too big for him, they knew the size of the challenge.

“But credit to Mikey, he done himself proud, it was always a big ask to beat Errol Spence.”

Malignaggi is the director of ULTIMATE BOXXER, Britain’s first boxing entertainment brand, and was speaking at the launch of their new broadcast deal with BT Sport.

ULTIMATE BOXXER III will take place at The Indigo at The O2 Arena on Friday May 10. Sign up at www.ultimateboxxer.com for access to ticket pre-sale.
