April the giraffe welcomed her fifth calf over the weekend when she unexpectedly went into labour on Saturday, March 16. The giraffe’s birth concluded an intense 15-month-long wait, fuelled by due-date speculation, mystery and excitement. Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, where April gave birth, has now given April’s fans the opportunity to watch the baby giraffe rest alongside its mother. The YouTube live stream broadcasts directly from April’s pen, where she resides alongside her calf and male partner Oliver.
April gave birth to her fifth calf on Saturday, at exactly 3.43pm GMT (12.43pm EST).
Animal Adventure Park said: “Welcome to the world little one! Early this morning, April’s behaviour suggested a calf was on the way.

“Team members cleaned and prepared and then left the barn to give April her space.
“Approximately 11am, Jordan entered the barn to check April, who laid with her back end juts out of camera view on both camera angles.
“Upon Jordan’s entry to the barn, April stood up and revealed that she had in fact been in labour and the calf’s hooves and first eight to 10 inches of leg were emerging.
“Labour alerts were quickly initiated, veterinary and park staff called to the barn and we watched with over 300k other viewers.”

April the giraffe first became a viral sensation in 2017, when her zookeepers at Animal Adventure Park mounted a live webcam in her pen.
The giraffe’s pregnancy quickly became a hit online thanks in no small part to her unknown due date.
Tens of millions of people watched the giraffe over YouTube over the space of two months as the countdown clock ticked away the days to birth.
April finally went into labour on April 15, 2017, and gave birth to a male calf named Tajiri.

To date, Tajiri’s birth was viewed more than 15 million times on YouTube.
Many of the giraffe fans who watched April give birth two years ago, returned for news of April’s fifth pregnancy.
Patricia Donovan Fleming wrote on Facebook: “In a world that feels heavy with anger, hate prejudice, fear, Animal Adventure Park shares this beautiful time in hosiery where April the giraffe gives birth to another beautiful baby.”
Joy Salewsky Derouin said: “They look like they are both smiling. What a good job, April.”
Robyn Abels said: “He’s going to be a firecracker! Right from the start he was checking out the humanoids and Oliver.
“I thought he looked bigger than Taj did at birth. Look out world, this one’s going to be a force to be dealt with.”
