Mike Thalassitis death: Love Island contestants 'don't get any support' says co-star

Dom Lever, 28, tweeted his 174,000 followers saying: “You get a psychological evaluation before and after you go on the show but hands down once you are done on the show you don’t get any support unless you’re number one.” Alex Beattie, 24, who also starred on Love Island, replied: “This is what angers me the most mate! I feel so lucky as a man to have had a strong support network around me and a passion for something before Love Island. Which I could turn to but in a different way. If the show is set to carry on NEEDS TO have regular check ups on contestants.”

“Exactly mate, you should have someone to talk too,”(sic) Dom responded. “Number 1 of first one gone you all deserve the same attention.”(sic)

A spokesperson for ITV declined to comment when asked by Express.co.uk.

A statement from the broadcaster read: “Everyone at ITV2 and Love Island are shocked and saddened by this terrible news. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mike’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

Love Island’s Mike Thalassitis died near his home in Essex yesterday, his management confirmed.

Dom and Mike both shot to fame on the 2017 series of Love Island.

Dom was among those paying tribute to his late co-star after hearing the news of his death yesterday, tweeting: “I’m shocked at the news!! Me and @MikeThalassitis may not have seen eye to eye but he was a top guy.”

Mike reportedly died shortly after his nan’s death, with The Sun’s Dan Wootton saying he spoke to the “grieving” star just days ago.

“Devastated to hear of the passing of Mike Thalassitis,” the journalist told his 340,000 Twitter followers. “He was a good man and this is an atrocious waste of a young life.

“I spoke to Mike (who loved that I would still call him Muggy) on Thursday,” he continued. “He was grieving the loss of his nan.

“She was 94 and he had moved in to live with her because she needed a full-time carer.

“He assured me he was fine and was excited about the launch of his shop.”

Dan called the loss of Mike “senseless”, adding: “Mike wasn’t the lad you saw on Love Island. He was tender and sensitive and vulnerable and desperate of true love.”

Tributes poured in for the former Love Island contestant, with Kem Cetinay, 22, tweeting: “Such heartbreaking news. My thoughts go out to all of Mike’s friends and family.”

“I am in utter shock,” Amber Davies, 22, said. “@MikeThalassitis you were one of the most genuine guy!

“I just can’t believe this! You’ll be missed so much you have no idea.”(sic)

Mike appeared on Celebs Go Dating last year and recently split from his TOWIE star girlfriend Megan McKenna, 26.
