Melania Trump 'more conservative' when Donald gained power – has she missed vital trick?

She made her name as a fashion model, but since her husband Donald Trump, 72, was elected as the US President in 2016, Melania Trump has taken on the role of First Lady. She now spends much of her time attending important events, and promoting her Be Best campaign. With evolving fashion and ever-changing personal preferences, many people undergo a style transformation during their lifetime. But, how has the 48-year-old First Lady altered her aesthetic in recent years?

Taking a look back at her past looks was Glamhive stylist Naina Singla, who is based in Washington DC.

Reflecting on snaps of Melania and her husband Donald taken back in 2014 and 2015, she spotted some notable differences to her modern day style.

Comparing the change, Naina studied more recent captures, from earlier this year – as well as 2018.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she said: “Melania Trump’s style has evolved a lot since she has become First Lady.

“Her style is more refined, elegant, and polished; even though it’s not super conservative, it is more conservative compared to what she wore in years past.”

Naina went on to take a look at Melania’s go-to ensembles, explaining: “In terms of colours, Melania loves white and black, monochromes, and vibrant colours.

“She loves wearing sheath dresses and is often seen belting her looks to accentuate her waistline.”

So, in what way has she changed her wardrobe since taking on the huge role in the public eye?

“Melania Trump has toned down her style,” she explained.

“She used to wear more form fitting dresses, baby doll dresses, plunging necklines, and miniskirts. But now we would not see her wearing such styles.

“She dropped her hemline since becoming the First Lady and she wears more pants and pant suits. Her look is more polished and professional.”

The stylist went on to discuss how Melania has previously hit out at those who have concentrated on her outfit choices, as opposed to her work as First Lady.

However, according to Naina, it seems that the First Lady seems to have decided against a way in which she could incorporate her fashion with her role.

“In comparison to former First Lady Michelle Obama, who supported less well known designers from diverse backgrounds, Melania’s fashion choices are more expensive and she chooses more established designers like Burberry, Ralph Lauren, and Dior,” she said.

“Melania has repeatedly stated that she wishes the media would focus less on her outfits and more on the work she is doing.

“But it could be argued that she could use her fashion choices to her advantage and to promote various causes.”

On Sunday, Melania was spotted returning to the White House with her husband Donald Trump, and their 12-year-old son Barron Trump, after spending the weekend at the Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
