‘Tougher than Bayern’

13:35: Georginio Wijnaldum thinks second-bottom of the table Fulham may present an even more difficult proposition than five-time European champions Bayern.

Now I’m not sure if that’s a dig at Bayern or a backhanded compliment to Fulham. Either way – I believe it’s nonsense.

“I think it will be even harder at Fulham,” said Wijnaldum.

“They are struggling, fighting to survive and that is always difficult to play against, those teams. Fulham will make it as difficult as possible and we have to be focused.”

“Can I have your gloves?”

13:30: The ‘can I have things’ epidemic continues at Craven Cottage today with a youngster holding a sign asking Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson for his gloves.

Now I don’t doubt the Brazilian’s generosity – I do, however, doubt that he’s going to part with his gloves before the match starts…

Team News – Fulham

13:25: Scott Parker makes four changes to the side who were beaten by Leicester last weekend.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Jean Michael Seri, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Floyd Ayite are the four players drafted into the starting XI. Took me ages to write their names out…

Denis Odoi, Ryan Sessegnon, Kevin McDonald and Havard Nordtveit are dropped.

Absolute scenes when former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel turns up and bangs in a hat-trick…

Team News – Liverpool

13:20: Looks like Jurgen Klopp is going for broke against Fulham today. Very attacking side with plenty of creativity.

He makes two changes with Fabinho and Adam Lallana returning to the starting XI. Jordan Henderson and James Milner drop out.

Liverpool eyeing return to the summit

13:10: While leaders Manchester City played in the FA Cup, second-placed Liverpool can reclaim top spot against Fulham today.

The Reds have been held to draws in each of their last three away league games but go into the contest on-song, having beaten Burnley 4-2 at Anfield last weekend and then produced a superb 3-1 Champions League win at Bayern Munich.

Second-bottom Fulham will be hoping Jurgen Klopp’s men suffer some kind of hangover from the Germany trip as they look to halt their losing run. The 3-1 reverse at Leicester last time out – the Cottagers’ second match with Scott Parker in charge – was a sixth defeat on the spin.

Twitter round-up

Alex: Imagine thinking Liverpool will make Fulham an easy game! Can see Fulham trying to park a rusty bus!

Pay: Big win needed today but these kind of games can be the biggest tests! Definitely not going to be the easy game pundits and twitter geniuses seem to think!

Phoenix: Must win game today against Fulham. Need to keep the momentum going. Mohamed Salah masterclass incoming.

Afternoon…

13:05: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

From the Allianz Arena to Craven Cottage… feels like trading in a Porsche 911 for a MINI Cooper.

But the importance of the result is exactly the same. Liverpool simply have to win to reclaim top position and pile the pressure back on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

No ifs, buts or maybes.

So it’s fairly fortunate that Fulham, who have lost five consecutive league games against Liverpool while conceding 16 goals, are today’s opponents.

Anyway, the line-ups are about to arrive and we’ll see if Sadio Mane has recovered from that pesky knock.

Fulham caretaker boss Scott Parker has no new injury concerns. Andre Schurrle is training again after a virus but defender Alfie Mawson (knee) remains absent as does goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli after surgery on his own knee issue.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will miss out with an ankle injury sustained in the midweek Champions League victory over Bayern Munich. Fellow midfielder Naby Keita will be assessed after missing the trip to Germany with a minor injury.
