EVERTON 0-0 CHELSEA

45: And we’re back underway here at Goodison Park. Chelsea completely dominated Marco Silva’s side in that first half. It actually made me long for the Sam Allardyce days…

No changes for either side. But there is a change of match ball. Gonzalo Higuain took two squeezes and threw it away. Breathtaking stuff.

HT: Awful. What an awful 45 minutes of Premier League football.

47: The biggest cheer of the half is reserved for Calvert-Lewin, who doesn’t give up on a loose ball and beats David Luiz with a firm sliding challenge. Evertonians appreciated that.

45: Two minuets added time.

44: Offside! Obviously the best passage of play we’ve seen here was offside… David Luiz pings a 60-yard diagonal pass to Pedro, who plucks it down and lashes into the net.

The Spaniard smiles as he jogs back into position.

43: Close! Pedro embarks on a fine solo run forward before slamming a 20-yarder inches wide of Jordan Pickford’s post.

40: Barkley strikes it into the wall. Not his finest and I suspect David Luiz will pull rank next time.

39: Everton virtually camped inside their final third as Chelsea pour forward. The inevitable happens as Richarlison loses patience and fouls Hazard just outside the penalty area.

Ross Barkley and David Luiz standing over it…

36: Booked! Richarlison finally nips in behind Marcos Alonso and the Spaniard clips his heels to earn the first caution of the afternoon.

Everton free-kick close to the right touchline. Sigurdsson delivers… close! Terrific in swinger finds Calvert-Lewin in splendid isolation but he’s headed it miles over.

33: It’s 0-14 in the ‘touches in the opponents penalty area’ competition. That’s a landslide.

Ross Barkley is causing havoc down that left channel. He squares the ball for the onrushing Gonzalo Higuain, who sends it over. Such a lack of killer instinct here.

30: Groans as Yerry Mina miscontrols a straight forward backpass from Lucas Digne and gives away a corner. Not the tactic that should be adopted when your record from set-pieces is as bad as Everton’s.

Yerry Mina raises highest to clear.

29: If you’re watching this on the box – don’t adjust you TV. It really is that quiet at Goodison Park. I had expected the return of Ross Barkley to fire Everton up – but aside from some boos it’s been tame.

26: More boos and jeers as Barkley hits one from distance. It’s easily gathered by Jordan Pickford. Andre Gomes then does the same and Kepa collects at the second time of asking.

23: Brighton won the shootout 5-4 to secure their place in the FA Cup semi-finals. Glenn Murray missed Brighton’s first penalty, but Mahlon Romeo and Jake Cooper also fluffed their lines for Millwall.

And the semi-final draw is: Watford vs Wolves, Manchester City vs Brighton.

20: Ross Barkley goes from the sublime to the ridiculous here – much to the amusement of Everton fans. He produces some fancy footwork to skip past Seamus Coleman inside the penalty area before a horrendous mis-kick flies back into the Chelsea half.

18: Everton engaging in a bit of hoof ball here as Yerry Mina blasts one up to Calvert-Lewin, who wins the header but is subsequently swamped.

15: Very subdued atmosphere at Goodison Park. At least it was until Lucas Digne intercepted a diagonal pass before feeding Calvert-Lewin. The forward has very little support and skies the effort miles over the crossbar.

13: Lengthy pause in play while Idrissa Gueye goes down injured. Silva is using the break to talk some sense into his players – because Everton look like a side ready to be beaten.

10: Woodwork! No idea how Chelsea haven’t taken the lead here.

Eden Hazard is allowed the freedom of the park to pick his spot and slam a low, skidding 20-yard effort against the post.

Moments later Cesar Azpilicueta loops a ball and Gonzalo Higuain nips behind the static Everton defence and sees Jordan Pickford palm his low effort away.

7: Save! Eden Hazard injects some pace down the left channel before darting inside and testing Jordan Pickford. It’s a good stop and the corner is hacked away.

5: Chelsea bossing possession stats in the early stages. If Marco Silva’s done his homework – he’ll have watched Wolves’ victory at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

3: Antonio Ruddier gives Dominic Calvert-Lewin a thwack in an aerial duel. Just an early warning for the young England international.

It’s my duty to inform you that Millwall 2-2 Brighton has gone to penalties. I’ll let you know the outcome… if you care.

1: Ladies and gentlemen – we’re underway.

Huge boo inside 30 seconds for Ross Barkley. I’ll be interested to see how long they plan to keep this up. I find hostility usually subsides after the half-hour mark. Sweepstake anyone?

Here they come!

16:25: Terrific buzz here at Goodison Park. Z-Cars was preceded by an air raid siren blaring around the stadium. Makes for an electric atmosphere.

Ross returns

16:20: Well we knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park for boyhood Everton fan Ross Barkley today.

The hostility is based around his decision to snub a £35million deadline day move to Chelsea – opting instead to leave for £15m in January 2018 instead.

He’s getting reactions in the warm up already. Everton fans mocking his misses, and Chelsea fans backing him when he scores. It will be interesting to see what he gets on kick off…

Focus on Pickford

16:15: There will be considerable interest in how Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford fares today.

The 25-year-old former Sunderland player made a couple of high-profile errors in last weekend’s 3-2 loss at Newcastle before being named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad on Wednesday.

Pickford will certainly want to put in a strong performance in his final game before the international break.

Team News

16:10: Midfielder Ross Barkley makes his first return to Goodison Park to face former club Everton after being named in Chelsea’s starting line-up.

The visitors make seven changes from Thursday’s Europa League win in Kiev with Barkley, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Jorginho, Hazard, Gonzalo Higuain and Pedro all coming in.

Everton made two alterations with Seamus Coleman, back after illness, and Yerry Mina coming in for Jonjoe Kenny and the on-loan Kurt Zouma, ineligible against his parent club.

Afternoon…

16:00: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

We’re limited for build-up today because Liverpool were taken to the brink by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

A mix-up involving James Milner, Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson opened the door for Ryan Babel – yes THAT Ryan Babel.

However, a moment of madness from Sergio Rico gifts the Reds a spot-kick that James Milner promptly slammed home to claim a 2-1 victory.

Anyway, let’s get started!

EVERTON vs CHELSEA

Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines are both in contention to return for Everton. Coleman (illness) was absent for last weekend’s defeat at Newcastle because of illness while Baines (back) has not featured since the start of February. Kurt Zouma will be unavailable to face his parent club while Phil Jagielka is unlikely to return until after the international break.

Gonzalo Higuain could return to contention for Chelsea after missing the Europa League win at Dynamo Kiev through illness. Blues head coach Maurizio Sarri is expected to restore the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Jorginho and Eden Hazard to his starting line-up.
