Dick Dale: Surf rock pioneer and Pulp Fiction guitarist dies aged 81

Guartist Dick Dale, the pioneer of surf rock, died age 81 on Saturday night (March 17) his live bassist, Sam Bolle, has announced.

The musician’s agent also confirmed the news, telling Billboard “it’s a sad day for rock ‘n’ roll”.

Dick, known for his 1962 track Misirlou in the cult classic Pulp Fiction, was born Richard Anthony Monsour in May 1937.

He made a name for himself in the music industry in the early ’60s with his band, the Del-Tones, and the hit Miserlou.
