PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch set to be joined by SHOCK new console rival in 2019

PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch are the biggest console systems around right now with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo the leading gaming players.

It’s been that way since the early noughties with these three industry giants battling it out in generation after generation in the console wars.

The PS4 has been the biggest seller of this generation, with Sony’s hugely popular PlayStation console closing in on 100million units sold.

While the Nintendo Switch has been selling like hot cakes since it launched two years ago and the Xbox One has bit by bit been making a comeback.

But the systems from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo could soon be joined by a major new rival in 2019.

PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch fans will need to keep a close eye on what’s going on in California next week.

In San Francisco GDC 2019 is taking place and there Google look set to reveal their first entry into the gaming space.

The search engine giant has teased they have a big announcement lined up for GDC 2019.

A mysterious teaser has been published calling on gamers to “gather around” for the big reveal on Tuesday March 19 2019.

A description for the teaser on YouTube also provides a hyperlink to a YouTube video called ‘Google GDC 2019 Gaming Announcement’.

At the moment that video is counting down until the big announcement takes place at 5pm UK time on March 19.

So what could Google be about to launch? Well, rumour has it Google are about to unveil a revolutionary games streaming service and a new console.

Google already has ex-PlayStation and Xbox bigwig Phil Harrison at the company, who may have been helping work on the project behind closed doors.

And we may have seen what the upcoming games streaming service will be like thanks to an impressive test that took place at the end of last year.

Towards the end of 2018 Google ran a test for their Project Stream tech which let gamers stream Assassin’s Creed Odyssey through the Chrome browser.

The ability to stream current-gen games simply through an internet browser opens up huge possibilities.

And it potentially shows how graphically and technically advanced the games on offer on the Google streaming service will be.

Rumours are also swirling that Google could be working with a major player in the games industry on their new console.

It’s rumoured that SEGA could be working in partnership with Google to produce games for the upcoming streaming service and console.

As revealed in a post by GameRant, the rumours come from YouTube channel Spawn Wave.

The prospect of SEGA returning to play a pivotal role in the console wars will undoubtedly get plenty of gamers excited.

The last time this happened was with SEGA’s last home console, the much-loved and ahead of its time SEGA Dreamcast which first launched back in 1998.

But as always with rumours it’s best to take them with a big dollop of salt until official confirmation.

While there are plenty of rumours about Google’s new gaming venture, fans don’t have long to wait to find out for sure what’s in store.

Google’s big gaming announcement will take place on Tuesday March 19 2019 at 5pm UK time. Stay tuned to Express.co.uk for more news.
