Paris Jackson has insisted it is “not her role” to defend the deceased pop star following claims Michael Jackson sexually abused two men while they were children. A two-part documentary, entitled Leaving Neverland sees Wade Robson and James Safechuck share their testimonies about the King of Pop’s alleged abuse. But Paris has refrained from commenting on the HBO special and encouraged people to “be mellow and think about the bigger picture”. When the 20-year-old model was asked on social media what she made of the documentary she said she had nothing to say.
“There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said in regards to defence [sic]. Taj is doing a perfect job on his own,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I support him. But that’s not my role. I’m just tryna get everyone to chill out and go with the flow, be mellow and think about the bigger picture. That’s me.”(sic)
The eldest child of Michael, who died from an overdose in 2009, referred to her cousin Taj, the singer’s nephew, in the tweet.
Taj announced earlier this week he was planning to make a counter documentary, starting with the 1993 allegations against his late uncle.
Speaking to NME, he said: “It’s going to start off with the 1993 allegations because I think that’s where everything started. So it’s going to start there.
“It’s going to talk about the settlement in terms of the civil suit and why he settled.”
He continued: “At one point he was very against settling and angry and then gave in. So why did he do that? So it’s going to talk about all of that. 1993/1994 to 2005 are the big parts of his life.
“So this is not going to be a puff piece. It’s not going to be, ‘Oh, let’s show Michael Jackson the humanitarian.’ This is about exposing all the things that have been mustering for 20, 30 years.”
Paris previously shared an article which claimed she had released a statement addressing the sexual abuse allegations against her father.
Gay Star News reported she had said she does not believe the fresh claims and was “concerned” the documentary “may ruin her chances of success as a performer”.
An insider told the publication: “Paris had hoped to launch a successful career in acting but fears Leaving Neverland has ruined her chances of it taking off.
“She was in a movie last year but believes the documentary is already scaring directors away because the abuse her father is accused of may put movie goers off her.”
Paris shared the Gay Star News article in view of her 1.31 million followers earlier this month, denying she had said anything about the claims.
In a now-deleted tweet, she wrote: “I actually haven’t made any statements yet, especially regarding how it affects my work life.
“You guys are reaching a bit. At least this wasn’t a disgusting and attacking article though.”
She also followed up her tweet writing: “Y’all take my life more seriously than I do. Calm yo t**taaaaysss.”(sic)
