Google console UPDATE: Major games giant working with Google on PS4, Xbox, Switch rival?

Google may be working with a iconic name in the games industry on their much-rumoured rival to the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Google have long been rumoured to be working on a games console, and it looks like the search engine giant will reveal all soon.

Google recently published a mysterious teaser ahead of GDC 2019 which calls on gamers to “gather around”.

The description for the teaser published in a post on YouTube says Google will be unveiling their “vision for the future of gaming”.

The description for the teaser also has a hyperlink to a video called Google GDC 2019 Gaming Announcement.

The video is currently counting down until the GDC reveal starts at 5pm UK time on Tuesday March 19.

For those in the States it will take place at 10am pacific time.

And ahead of the big Google reveal a huge rumour has started swirling about the console.

We know Google have been working on their Project Stream tech, which lets gamers stream titles via an internet browser.

Last year Google ran a test which had current-gen title Assassin’s Creed Odyssey streamed via Chrome.

But it’s rumoured that Google will be lifting the lid on a games streaming service and a fully fledged console at GDC 2019 next week.

And it’s rumoured that SEGA could be working in partnership with Google to produce games for the streaming service and the console.

As revealed in a post by GameRant, the rumours come from YouTube channel Spawn Wave.

The prospect of SEGA returning to play a pivotal role in the console wars will undoubtedly get plenty of gamers excited.

But as always with rumours it’s best to take them with a big dollop of salt until official confirmation.

Ahead of the big GDC reveal it was announced former Ubisoft and EA studio head Jade Raymond is joining Google.

Taking to Twitter Raymond tweeted: “I’m excited to finally be able to share that I have joined Google as VP!”

Former PlayStation and Xbox bigwig Phil Harrison is already at Google also.
