Captain Marvel ‘alternate ending’ REVEALED: Final scene CHANGED ahead of Avengers Endgame

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Captain Marvel. In the smash hit Marvel film, Brie Larson’s character flies with Talos and the refugee Skrulls, off into the galaxy to help them find a new home planet. She leaves Nick Fury with a modified version of his pager, so that he can reach her in extreme emergencies – which of course he does in the end credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War.

However, editor Debbie Berman has revealed that the final moments were almost very different.

It was initially the plan for Danvers to fly off alone – presumably to help other species far, far away.

“It used to end with Carol flying off into space alone, and I found that a bit jarring,” Berman told Entertainment Tonight.

“Like, where exactly was she going? And what was she doing?

“It felt like we needed a stronger visual to assert a more specific justification for her leaving and disappearing for so many years.”

Carol Danvers was not referenced during the entire MCU back catalogue since it began with Iron Man in 2008, so the 1990s-set Captain Marvel film had to cover her absence.

Now, courtesy of the film’s mid-credits scene and the latest Avengers: Endgame trailer, we have seen her in the present day.

In the former, we see her responding to Fury’s pager call – bluntly asking Natasha Romanoff: “Where’s Fury?”

And in the new Endgame trailer, we see Thor summoning his hammer – presumably in a bid to intimidate her.

It sails right past her head but she doesn’t even flinch – leaving Chris Hemsworth’s character very impressed.

Carol is rumoured to be integral to the Avengers’ fightback against Thanos in the wake of Infinity War.

Captain Marvel is out now. Avengers: Endgame is out in the UK on April 25.
