Left 4 Dead 3: Turtle Rock ‘goes back to its roots’ with brand new zombie game

Horror game lovers have long held out hope that Left 4 Dead 3 could be released.

The last title in the cult zombie co-op shooter series was released back in 2009.

However, since then developers Turtle Rock Studios (formerly Valve South) have had their attentions shifted.

Following the release of Left 4 Dead 2 Turtle Rock went onto develop Evolve and Evolve Stage 2 in 2015 and 2016.

Left 4 Dead fans may have given up hope of seeing another zombie shooter from Turtle Rock – but today they’ve been given big news.

The dev has revealed they’re going back to their “roots” with a brand new co-operative zombie shooter called Back 4 Blood.

While it does not have the Left 4 Dead moniker, the details revealed so far of Back 4 Blood will leave L4D fans very excited.

In a post online Turtle Rock Studios said: “Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Turtle Rock Studios today announced Back 4 Blood, from the creators and development team behind the critically acclaimed, co-op phenomenon Left 4 Dead.

“Back 4 Blood is designed from the ground-up as an original, premium title and marries the best of what made the co-op zombie shooter so successful with new features and state-of-the-art technology.”

Chris Ashton, co-founder and design director at Turtle Rock Studios, said the devs are going back to a genre “born in our studio”.

He said: “It’s hard to overstate what an awesome opportunity this is.

We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains.

“We also have some of the best teammates in the business at WBIE who understand our development process and are equally committed to our player-first mentality.

We love being able to announce, so we can start working with the community right away.”

While Phil Robb, co-founder and creative director at Turtle Rock Studios, said: “We are not resting on any past laurels. Our goal is to take all we’ve learned and push forward.

“We know that’s a tall order. We’re growing the team considerably because we’re stepping up to the biggest challenge in this studio’s history.

“We know this title has to stand out and we fully intend to make that happen.”

The FAQ page for Back 4 Blood went into more details about what fans can expect from the upcoming title.

It said: “We are going back to our roots and at the same time innovating on them.

“We know we have some big shoes to fill, but we’re going all out to surpass everything we’ve done before”.

It added that Back 4 Blood is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PCs – but “more possibilities aren’t out of the question”.
