Facebook Messenger is the social network’s chatting client that is harnessed by users across the globe.
But it appears this evening the software has been plagued by an outage.
Independent outage monitor Down Detector has registered over 490 reports from users at one time insisting the WhatsApp rival was not working properly.
An outage map displayed by the site showed the UK, Poland and the US as three of the areas hit the hardest by the outage.
Facebook has acknowledged the outage and has stated it is working to resolve the problem “as soon as possible.”
A spokesperson for the social media giant said: “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps.
“We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
